Whatever happened to Malay movies?

I watched two Malay movies this weekend. As if I got nothing better to do. Padahal ada reading assignment and homework due. Since last week dah penat berhempas pulas study for the CCNA exam, this week I decided to lepak-lepak a bit (Finals dah dekat wahai Rozanna, insaf la oi).

The first movie I watched was Cinta Luar Biasa, starring Nasha Aziz, Apek, Hans Isaac and Shanie. Typical Malay movie, I must say. Predictable ending. I noticed Malay movies sekarang ni banyak nak ikut cerita Hindustan. Menyanyi-nyanyi.... even ada one scene from the movie memang sebijik la tiru cerita Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Dah tak de idea lain ke? Sangat lah tak best. And then, yang lagi menyakitkan hati.. diorang selalu guna overuse phrase. For example, macam dalam this movie.. si Nasha ni suka sangat guna perkataan "Apa kes?". Sekali dua dengar, memang la kelakar. Tapi kalau dah setiap ayat nak sebut perkataan tu.. tak ke meluat? Kadang-kadang tu tak kene langsung dengan konteks ayat. Langsung dah tak jadi kelakar.

And then I watched Sepet. The story was about percintaan terhalang between a Malay girl and a Chinese boy. The good side: Ok la, I must admit, the script tak de la yang menyampahkan sangat. Takde la ayat-ayat macam cerita Sembilu ke Maria Mariana ke. Haha. In fact, I should applaud them la sebab buat such script yang reflect the real way Malaysians talk. Guna bahasa pasar. I was shocked to hear that diorang guna perkataan-perkataan like 'bloody' or even 'f**k'. Acceptable la I guess. But mesti ramai orang akan critic nye cerita nih. I wonder if this movie dapat keluar kat cinema ke tak? The bad side: For one thing, jalan cerita die kadang-kadang tak faham. Bila cerita tu dah habis, I was like, "Huh...? I don't get it." I don't know if it's just me, but I think orang yang buat cerita ni tak dapat sampai kan message dia kepada penonton. Sometimes, ada scene yang tak logic jugak (I don't want to give it all away, in case ada sapa-sapa yang nak tengok cerita tu). But I have to mention this one thing. Ada ke, orang Melayu jalan-jalan, menari-nari dalam rumah berkemban ngan kain batik? As far as I can remember, takde la kot. And ada this one scene the actor, Harith Iskandar, pakai kain pelekat and terlondeh and nampak la dia pakai just underwear. I mean, euwwww.....? Tak payah la tunjuk kan? So as a conclusion, what I'm trying to point out is, I don't like the movie.

I'm not saying that all Malay movies tak bagus. Cerita-cerita comedy macam Senario tu lawak jugak. And cerita Buli (Afdlin Shauki & Nasha Aziz) boleh tahan jugak. But to me, so far, cerita Melayu yang I really enjoyed was Puteri Gunung Ledang. Some might say cerita tu lembab, panjang sangat or aksi lawan-lawan die tak real. Might be true jugak. But I like the story. Makes me proud to be a half keturunan Melaka (Thanks to my dad). Huhu...

Ok, enough about kutuk-mengutuk already. Need to start on the readings.

         What an unproductive weekend ....

Finally!

I have been cracking my head on the CCNA stuff since like a week ago (Seems like forever, though!). And Alhamdulillah, yesterday, all my hard work has been paid off. I finally passed my CCNA exam on my second attempt (I failed the first time. Hehe... Well, there goes my 250 dollars!). Luckily MARA promise to pay for one exam. So selamat la sikit.

Now that I have already passed this exam, rasa macam satu beban dah hilang. It has been haunting me since last semester actually. Menakutkan sungguh. I wasn't supposed to take this class actually. The class I was supposed to take this semester, Intro to Voice and Image Processing (or something like that), suddenly was not offered this semester pulak. The instructor just got promoted as Dean ke.. something like that la. So die tak de masa nak teach that class. So I have no choice but to take this class, Network Engineering. Mula-mula, I have to admit memang la cuak. Dah la exam kene bayar. Susah pulak tu (But then again, mana ada benda yang senang in this world kan?). But when I think about it, ada hikmah nye la jugak. If I were not to take this class, memang takkan terfikir pun nak amik exam ni bila-bila pun. But now, I think I'm kinda glad that I took this class. Yes, it requires hard work (And not to mention, a lot of money too!), but I think worth it la... Before this, I never thought that I have the guts or capability to take this exam, but now I have proven myself wrong! (Seriously, before this I never thougt I would pass!). Here's a little Math...

CCNA text book: $40
Soalan 'ramalan' from actualtests.com: $99
Index cards untuk tulis notes: $2
CCNA Exam: 125*2 = $250
The many hours spent glued to the chair, while others enjoying the beautiful sunshine outside, the pressure, the 'air mata' (hehe...) and the many many sleepless nights.... countless..

But to pass the CCNA exam, to be a Cisco Certified Network Associate (whatever that means la) ..... PRICELESS!! Other than that, there's always American Express! Muahahha!

And for that, I want to thank a few people. Firstly, I want to thank Allah, for whom I would not have passed this exam if not for His blessing. Secondly, I want to thank Hariz, for being so sweet, soooooo understanding, for giving me advices, for comforting me whenever i feel pressured. To tell me that I can do it and that everything's gonna be fine. And for praying for my success and most importantly, for being soo very very super duper patient with me during my rough time! Thank you, baby, for putting up with my nonsense these past few days (Note: I can be very emotional and sensitive especially when I'm tensed). I don't think I would have done it if you were not there for me. Thank you, again. I Love You. And lastly, to my parents, who always pray for my success, my friends, near and far who have wished me luck. I thank you all very much.

That's all for now. Still need to hit the books... ada lagi satu final! And oh, I suck at tennis, Big Time! Deymm....

Think how great it would be to have an iron-clad memory ...

   Current mood:

In response to Lyn's entry on February 27 about the connection between age and memory, I took the effort of doing some research on memory improvement and effective study skills. Here are some tips and strategies I found from several websites:

  • Many people mistakenly believe they have a poor memory, when in fact their inability to recall things is primarily a fault of not observing things properly in the first place, or making any effort to encode the material into their memories. (Arghh selamba cakap orang tak de effort! Dah tu apa yang aku belajar selama ni takde effort ke? Chet!)

  • Strive for a deeper understanding. There is psychological evidence to suggest that the more you understand about your material, the more you will remember and retain it, regardless of what memorization technique you use, or how many times you repeat the material to yourself. (Hmm... no comment)

  • Get a good night's rest! The latest neurological research indicates that people who get a good night's sleep after learning and practicing a new task remember more about it the next day than do people who pull an all-nighter trying to learn the same thing. Researchers speculate that sleep can "wash away" superfluous, undesirable memories, crystallizing the salient information you have previously learned. (One word: Muahahahaaaa.....)

  • Rehearse what you have learned! In other words go over what you are trying to learn repeatedly -- the good old fashioned rote memorization technique still works! For best results, and distribute to your rehearsal sessions on successive days, rather than try to cram it all into one long marathon session. (Apa nak buat kalau dah banyak sangat chapter nak kene baca and hafal?)

  • Make colorful visual associations. Evidence suggests that creating pictures in your mind that you can in some way associate to the words and phrases you are trying to remember will effectively create a second memory of the same thing, and maximize your chances of recalling the material at a later date. (Macam tak applicable je. Tak de benda untuk di visualize kan. Macam mana nak visualize network-network itu? Atau visualize camana data di transfer dari satu tempat ke satu tempat? Hish... tak masuk akal)

  • Use mnemonic devices. Basically, mnemonics refer to any memorization technique that helps you make material more personally meaningful. (No comment. Tak reti buat)

  • Interest - In order to remember something thoroughly, you must be interested in it. You must have a reason to learn it. (Waaahhh, saya suka CCNA! Dalam hati: Macam fake je!)

  • Intent to Remember - It has much to do with whether you remember something or not. A key factor to remembering is having a positive attitude that you will remember. (Yakin boleh! Dalam hati: Lagi sekali fake nak mampos!)

  • Basic Background - Your understanding of new materials depends to a great degree on how much you already know about the subject. The more you increase your basic knowledge, the easier it is to build new knowledge on this background. (Ulang suara.... Muahhahahaha...)

  • Selectivity - You must determine what is most important and select those parts to study and learn. (Juga tak applicable. CCNA exam akan tanye semuaaaaaaa benda!)

  • Mental Visualization - Another powerful memory principle is making a mental picture of what needs to be remembered. By visualizing, you use an entirely different part of the brain than you did by reading or listening. (Arghhh... tidak mampuuuu)

Selamat maju jaya kepada rakan-rakan seperjuangan sekalian. Exam lagi seminggu lebih je lagi! Demmit. Ok la mau tido. List kat atas tu cakap kene 'Get a good night's rest'. Muahahaha... (Ceh, tips tu nak ikut, lain tanak la plak!). Lantak la. Dah ngantok.

         Gooooood morning capital district!

P/S: Emosi pada ketika ini ada la sedikit sebanyak seperti lagu 'Emotion Sickness' itu.

Taking chances

I 've been thinking a lot lately about taking chances
And how it really is about overcoming your fears
         Because the truth is
Everytime you take a big risk in your life
No matter how it would end up
You always glad you took it.

Well, at least I know I am!
And because of that, my life has turned around
         For good ... finally.

P/S: Pengajaran untuk hari ini: 6 - 5 = 1! Arghhh sangat bodoh!

Just my two cents ...

Current mood:

I guess the key to a lot of things is balance
Whether it's the balance in time
The balance in life
The balance in love
Even the balance of power
Or sometimes
It's just balance
Period.

For some of us
It seems too far out of reach
Too difficult to achieve
But the most important thing is
Just ... never ... stop ... trying ...........

Especially if you want things to work out
Just like the way you want them to be
So just keep on trying
Do not give up
Because even if you do fail
Please do not falter
Just hang in there
Because soon enough you'll get back on your feet
Stronger and wiser ...

The Voice Within ~ Christina Aguilera

Young girl don’t cry
I’ll be right here when your world starts to fall
Young girl it’s alright
Your tears will dry, you’ll soon be free to fly

When you’re safe inside your room you tend to dream
Of a place where nothing’s harder than it seems
No one ever wants or bothers to explain
Of the heartache life can bring and what it means

When there’s no one else, look inside yourself
Like your oldest friend just trust the voice within
Then you’ll find the strength that will guide your way
You’ll learn to begin to trust the voice within

Young girl don’t hide
You’ll never change if you just run away
Young girl just hold tight
Soon you’re gonna see your brighter day

Now in a world where innocence is quickly claimed
It’s so hard to stand your ground when you’re so afraid
No one reaches out a hand for you to hold
When you look outside look inside to your soul

Life is a journey
It can take you anywhere you choose to go
As long as you’re learning
You’ll find all you’ll ever need to know
You’ll break it
You’ll make it
Just don’t forsake it because
No one can tell you what you can’t do
No one can stop you, you know that I’m talking to you

Young girl don’t cry I’ll be right here when your world starts
                         to fall

Oh, crap!

Current Mood:

Access list  is essentially a list of conditions that categorize packets. They can be really helpful when you need to exercise control over network traffic. There are two main types of access list .... *boring boring boring* Standard IP access lists filter network traffic .... *yada yada yada* You create a standard IP access list by using the access-list numbers 1-99 or 1300-1999, you're telling the router that .... *crap crap crap*

ARGHHH!!!! Someone please tell me how to memorize all these stuff. 11 chapters, 536 pages, tons of information to remember, and yet so little time! Kenapa la sekarang ni susah sangat nak menghafal. Kalau masa SPM dulu, kasi je la apa... Chemistry? Physics? Tak de hal. Bukan nak riak la kan. But dulu masa zaman sekolah senang gila nak retain information dalam otak. But now? Maybe dah tua kot? Or banyak dosa? Muahhaha.... Arghh sangat tension. Kalau exam ni tak kena bayar tak pe gak. Nih... sekali amik kena $125! Gile buat duit lah Cisco nih. And if I do not pass this paper ... Maksudnya tak grad lah nampak nye. Hish... mulut jangan celupar Rozanna! Have faith in yourself. Bak kata slogan Nike, You Can Do It. Muahhaha... Sorry la. Emosi tak stabil di kala pagi buta ini...

Di petik daripada iklan Staples kat TV: "Wouldn't it be nice if there was an 'Easy' button for life?" Certainly it is! Tak ke best tuh? Kalau camtu sume orang pun berjaya lah nampaknye. Sume orang pun jadi pemalas la kan? Sebab sume benda pun tak yah berusaha, jadi senang gak. Hahahaa.... Pasal tu la benda macam tu tak wujud kan? (Adoi apa aku merepek nih?).

Ingat lagi cuti masa summer hari tu. Paranoid gile kalau nak kuar. Especially masa tengah jalan sorang-sorang masa nak pergi kat kereta kat car park shopping complex. Berlari tuuu nak pergi kat kereta! Hihii.. takut siot. Bak kata Din Beramboi, "Mengapa orang bunuh orang, sungguh jahat orang itu". Haha.

** Rancangan tergendala seketika **

Tiba-tiba mood bertukar menjadi:

Ok la. Dah lambat nih. Need to get some rest. Feeling a little bit under the weather today. Tapi still, tiba-tiba rasa happy giler walaupun tengah stress and tak sihat. Kenapa? Haa... itu rahsia la. Terima kasih kepada Pakcik p4. Hehehee ....

         Selamat malam. Eh, selamat pagi!

Howyeahuh!!

Waaaaahh, hari ni dalam kelas belajar macam mana nak buat Ethernet cable. Mula-mula macam takut nak buat sebab nampak tu macam kerja lelaki. (Dah la kitorang tiga orang je perempuan dalam kelas tu tadi!). Tapi bila dah start buat macam seronok la pulak! Haha... Rupa-rupanya tak de la susah mana pun. Kene tipu rupanya. Kat kedai jual punya la mahal padahal kalau nak buat sendiri ambik masa dalam 5-10 minit je kot (Untuk orang yang kurang professional dan lembab like me! Hehe..). Kalau macam nih boleh lah buat bisnes jual cable kat Malaysia nanti. Mana la tahu kalau tak dapat kerja lain kan. Ada backup. Muahahhaaaa.....

Adoi, sangat lah bosan nya entry blog hari nih. Takde idea sebenarnya.

Satu persoalan yang dari dulu tak terjawab. Macam mana nak mengurangkan nafsu makan eh? Arrghhh sangat tension nye! Asal boring je mesti nak makan. Apa nak jadi la Rozanna oi!

Oh, I received this one interesting book from a friend a few days ago (Thanks again Mala!). Tajuk dia The Lady and the Chocolate by Edward Monkton. It is actually a short story. Maybe kalau baca 2 minit pun dah boleh habis. Sounds simple enough right? Even though pada luaran nya (ececeyyy) nampak cerita die macam sangat straight forward, kalau nak kata macam cerita untuk budak-budak pun boleh gak. But actually cerita nih ada banyak maksud tersirat. Kena faham betul-betul baru dapat the hidden meanings. Edward Monkton is indeed a bizzare (but genius) thinker. The moral of the story, "Women are like tea bags and men are like chocolates".

"And, having eaten the chocolate, the Lady was overcome by feelings of PLEASURE more WONDERFUL than she had ever known before. And, henceforth, let ALL ladies know that it is not THEY who need CHOCOLATE for happiness. It is CHOCOLATE that needs them..."

                                                                                                                                                [Edward Monkton]

Check out this website (Click on the picture)

Nak beli kereta ni boleh tak? Heheh... Limited edition tuu. Only 62 cars remaining. Boleh book online (Tapi tak boleh beli online ye... Muahhaha!). Siapa nak kasik RM77 ribu? :D

Ok, I'll have to stop now. Need to get some sleep.

A long-overdue entry

It has been quite some time since I last updated my blog. Hehe.. sorry. Been very very lazy la lately nih. Tiba-tiba rasa macam tak berbakat nak menulis. Weird... cos I always thought that I can write (Muahahha... perasan Rozanna!). But really, I loved writing when I was in school. I even used to write my own novel (Of course la it was never published. If not I'll probably be a millionaire right now. Haha... Perasan nak mamposs!). Ok, ok serious la sikit Rozanna oi!

So, last Friday two of my housemates and I went shopping at the mall. It was that time of the year again - tax-free weekend for the whole New York state! And since kitorang pun takde kelas on Friday, kami pun mengambil kesempatan ini untuk menghabiskan duit. Kelakar la jugak. Orang lain dengan beg sekolah nya tunggu bas nak pergi sekolah, kitorang bertiga melenggang je berjalan dengan handbag masing-masing, tunggu bas nak pergi mall. Hahaha... Malu punya pasal, kitorang sanggup jalan jauh sikit nak tunggu bas kat tempat yang kurang orang (Reti gak malu tuh). The weather was amazingly great on that day, so we don't mind jalan lebih sikit (Plus, boleh exercise kan? Hihi...). Hmm.. sampai kat mall, shopping memang tak ingat punya la. Tak de la sale mana pun. Tapi sebab dah lama tak shopping kot? (Eh, bukan sebulan lepas ke baru shopping? Ala.. kira lama la tu ape kan?). Banyak la gak duit habis. Tak sedar diri betul. Shopping sampai tak ingat nak makan. I bought this one nice blazer and two shirts konon-konon nya untuk kerja nanti. Hahhaa.... Kerja pun tak de lagi, dah nak berangan! (Hmmm.. alahai, nak kerja apa laaa nanti nih?).

And then, on Saturday ada practice tarian. This semester Malaysian Students Association (MaSA) at RPI, nak organize lagi Malaysian Night. I heard diorang ni nak ajak orang MSD and Ambassador semua. So gempak la kot. Seperti biasa la kan, kalau tarian-tarian nih, takde muka lain. Hahaha.. But I am looking forward to this one since this is my last semester at RPI - or as a student for that matter! - so rasa macam nak buat something that I can cherish in the future nanti. Bila dah kerja ke.. mana ada opportunity nak buat benda-benda ni lagi kot? Or bila dah tua, dah ada anak-anak ke? Boleh la cakap kat anak-anak nanti... "Dulu Mama masa kat college dulu, Mama menari tau". Ahahhaa... So untuk tarian Melayu, we decided to perform Joget and Zapin. So far, baru belajar tarian joget la sebab tu senang. Lagipun I have learnt most of the steps daripada tarian yang dulu-dulu, so kira nak refresh kan memory je la. Tergelak gak tengok budak-budak laki ni menari but I have to applaud them for being very sporting! Hmm.. if only I have bakat menari, tak payah la nak susah-susah belajar IT nih kot. Jadi professional dancer lagi bagus. Macam best je? Dapat belajar tarian-tarian Melayu yang lain kan. Kalau tak kita, sapa lagi nak teruskan adat tradisi budaya Melayu yang indah nih (Ececeyyy.. macam karangan BM la plak!). Tapi betul la. Minat sangat bab-bab macam nih.

After tarian practice tu, a few of us decided to chill at this new campus cafe. The concept of the cafe memang dah lawa dah. Ala-ala starbucks gitu. Siap ada fireplace and couch semua... The price pun boleh tahan gak la. I ordered a chocolate chip muffin (yang sangatlah besar nya sampai tak habis) and hot chocolate. (Manhattan Clam Chowder die serious rasa macam asam pedas! Hahaha...). So kitorang pun lepak la berjam-jam kat cafe tu. Cerita macam-macam. One of the topics, of course la pasal apa nak buat lepas dah grad nanti kan (Apparently, memang tajuk nih sangat hangat diperkatakan among us seniors). Sampai sekarang still tak sure lagi what kind of job that I'm going to do nanti. Kitorang budak-budak IT nih ada masalah la sikit. Sebenarnya, definition of IT kat Malaysia nih lain benar ngan definition of IT kat States nih. Kat Malaysia, if orang cakap IT, sure diorang ingat macam Computer Science. Meaning, kena tahu programming language yang sangat banyak nya. Kitorang kat States nih, tak de la belajar programming language sangat pun. Kalau ada, sikiiit je, tu pun dah lupe. Hehehe... IT kat States lain la pulak, die lebih kepada Management side. Contohnya, belajar pasal Politics and Economics of IT (Lecturer kelas tu orang Jepun yang berambut macam samurai... serious tak tipu!) and belajar macam mana nak buat Information Systems and planning semua. And then IT degree kat RPI nih boleh pilih concentration sendiri. In my case I chose Communication and Networking. So kira I'm in the middle of Management & Engineering lah sebenarnya. Tapi... kalau nak mintak kerja kat Malaysia, they expect orang yang ada degree IT nih tahu lah programming language tu (BM and English language tahu aaa... plus French sikit-sikit. Muauahahha.. Buat lawak bodoh lak!). So anyway, tak tahu la camana nanti nak mintak kerja apa. Last-last mesti end up buat kerja yang tak de kene mengena ngan IT langsung. Buat penat je belajar 4 tahun! Tapi jadi lecturer pun ok gak kot? Tapi boleh ke nak mengajar budak-budak nih? Aiseehhhh..... *Kuuuuu...wowuwowuwooo.... di dalam dilemmaaaaaa* Hehehe...

I think that's all for now. Tak tahu la bila lagi nak update blog nih kan? Hehe... Macam ada orang *tu* la kata, I update my blog "every like forever" kan? Haha...
